Simon’s Triple Challenge – Number 2 (real post this time)

March 21, 2008 at 12:22 am (Challenge, Hidden Depths, Moo, Skinny) (, , , , , )

Right, having spent 2 days getting it how I wanted, I have to start again!!

I have made a slight change to the challenge: there will still be three themes – but you will get to choose which of the themes you want to use.

The projects stay the same:

 Moo Cards

Skinny Cards

Hidden Depths

(Check out the first challenge for details)

The themes this week all begin with the letter P

You can explore these with whatever techniques and products you have.

Here are my samples:

Moo Cards – Punctuation

Punctuation Moos

The bases of these were scraps of SEI papers from other projects.  I used CACTUS PINK chipboard for the embellishments.  Two are finished with pearly embossing powder, the question mark is ink followed by Glossy Accents.  All very simple to do and a great way to use up scraps.

Skinny Cards – Presents and Passion

Skinny - Presents

The Present skinny is a piece of purple/red card stock with an overall stamped design to look like wrapping paper.  I then tied some thin ribbon and attached a stamped tag – simple – but effective – I hope.

Skinny - Passion

The Passion skinny is Parisian Passion.  I stamped a couple of images from a Crafty Individuals stamp.  The card is embellished with torn strips of paper, a brad and a length of velvet ribbon.  Quite rich and passionate – I thought!

Hidden Depths – Purple Passion

Outside of Passion HD

Another bit of thrifty crafting.  I cut the base from the cover of my SEI pink and purple pad and altered the outside with Dusty Concord and Worn Lipstick distress inks.  I added a metallic Prima flower for texture.

Inside of Passion HD

The inside is three panels of UTEE over inks – the middle panel has a Craft Individuals dragonfly stamp and the right hand panel has a Drama Queen tag.

Something a bit different.

I hope you enjoy playing and look forward to seeing the results

NEW CHALLENGE – Hidden Depths

March 6, 2008 at 11:56 pm (Challenge, Hidden Depths) (, , )

Having seen the sorts of challenges that are out there, I was struck by the fact that they are only really concerned with one side of your chosen project.

I have come up with a simple piece of paper folding that allows you to create a more dimensional piece with ‘HIDDEN DEPTHS’

First you take a piece of cardweight stock (it can be single or double-sided)

Cut it to 5in by 5in (12.5cm x 12.5cm)

Score it at 2in (5cm) and at 4in (10cm)

Fold them in so you end up with a folded card that is 5in by 2in (12.5cm x 5cm)

Now you can start decorating.

The only other rules are that you should use different techniques on the inside and the outside and that there should be a contrast in styles.

Each challenge will be set on a different theme – and the theme must be used inside and out….

Our first theme will be  Springtime

Here is my sample:

Hidden Depths 1 - Outside

 Hidden Depths Inside.

On the outside, I used some adhesive ribbon on the top flap.

On the lower flap, I tore two strips of contrasting cardstock and layered them up to create a grass.

I then created a wrap of the same darker green card.  To this I attached a sheep!

The sheep (from Magnolia) was stamped using black Staz-on and then coloured using watercolour pencils.

On the inside, I cut three strips of Basic Grey Periphery paper and attached them – aligning the pattern as I went. I created a simple layered title block and added a bit of glitter here and there.

So I used stamping and paper tearing on the outside and on the inside I used patterned paper, journaling and glittering.

The two styles are very different – creating Hidden Depths!

I look forward to seeing what you come up with  (please post your links in the comments) Next challenge in a fortnight!
